AlQur'an is the word of Allah:
1- revealed to Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, in the Arabic language through the angel Jibreel (Gabriel), peace be upon him,
2- written in books in the lifetime of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and thereafter,
3- memorised by hearts in the lifetime of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and thereafter,
4- transmitted by unbroken and trustworthy chains of transmissions from the time of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, to our time,
5- unmatched in its Arabic beauty and eloquence,
6- one is in worship when he/she memorises it, writes it, recites it or just by looking at it.
Allah is the name of the creator of the heavens and the earth and all that is in between them.
The Angel Jibreel, peace be upon him, carries revelation to Prophets.
He is one of the many creatures of Allah beyond the senses of most people.
Our Master Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is a descendant of our Master Abraham, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
He was born in Mecca and it is there at the age of fourty that he started receiving revelation.
He died in Medina at the age of sixty three.
In essence the Muslims do not have a problem with the authenticity of AlQur'an. Its writing as well as its recitation is a preserved science.
Although there is a lot of common ground in the understanding of AlQur'an, there could be differences from one scholar to another and from one generation to another in understanding a word or a sentence therein.
Hence issues where there is a difference of opinion do not carry the same weight as issues agreed upon.
However opinions carry weight only if they follow the principles used to understand the text of AlQur'an.
Opinions born by breaking those principles can lead to the creation of sects. Past and present times bear witness to that.
The principles of understanding AlQur'an were also passed down from one generation to another.
I will try inshAllah (Allah willing) to write about these principles in a future post.
There are many sciences related to AlQur'an but one can note three of them here:
1- the science of writing (training the eyes / the hands) called ilmu rasm
2- the science of recitation (training the ears / the tongue) called ilmu qiraa
3- the science of understanding (training the heart) called ilmu fiqh
These sciences of AlQur'an are encoded using the Arabic language.
